    All evidence indicates that rakghouls are not beasts but formerly sentient victims of a plague that mutates the body and mind.
    It was Sith science that created the plague. And where the Force has corrupted, perhaps the Force can also heal....

    We take heart that our theories are sound, for there is a palpable dark side presence coming from the lair.

 were not beasts, but former sentient victims of a plague that mutated the body and mind. And since the plague was created by Sith science, they hoped that with the help of the Force they could resist the plague and heal the rakghouls or even return them to their previous state. A team of a dozen Jedi were sent on a research expedition to the northeastern part of the Tularan Marsh region, where one of the lairs of the rakghouls was discovered.

By that time Master Kirbi was convinced that the rakghouls were being led by something that was resistant to the Force, and she feared that the Jedi would attract its attention.
Soon after, the remaining members of the team were hunted down and killed by the rakghouls and Force-sensitive Neghouls
